Thrashers Brent Sopel and Nigel Dawes for Ben Maxwell and a 4th round pick.

Thoughts? It looks like a good deal to me. In my opinion giving up Maxwell is one of those things, a prospect, a good one at that but 22 now.

A very cautious thumbs up from me. Sopel is badly needed and will help the blue line in a big way. But losing Maxwell may hurt. There's a logjam at center with Plekanec, Gomez, Desharnais, Eller and Halpern. Not sure where Maxwell fits in that group but it would have been nice to find out if a skilled, big centerman could have made a home for himself in Montreal.

With all the forced changes on defense I still think it was not realistic to expect much on deadline day.
